From presshere:
1 or A. Conquista
Conquista comes amid the huge critical and radio success of Conquest, the third single from the band’s hit album Icky Thump (Third Man/Warner Bros), which debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts in June 2007. Originally written by Corky Robbins and popularized by Patti Page in the late 1950’s, Jack and Meg’s version is a blistering nouveau flamenco number that climaxes in a violent musical battle between Mexican trumpeter Regulo Aldama and Jack White in his fastest solo on record. Jack White re-recorded his vocals in Spanish for this very special single -the band’s first non-English vocal and their debut release as Las Rayas Blancas.
Conquista comes replete with its own Spanish language version of the much-lauded Diane Martel video. Filmed with a visual urgency that brings the song’s Spanish themes, frantic horns and compulsive pounding rhythm to life, the video follows an explosive – if unconventional – love story that pits man against bull in the ultimate conquest. For his role Jack White trained extensively with famed bullfighter Dennis Borba.
The Conquista video will premiere on Mun2’s The Shuffle on Thursday Feb 7th, along with an exclusive interview with Jack White. It’ll be aired again on Pepsi Música on Mun2 on Friday February 8th.
The White Stripes are nominated for 4 Grammys at Sunday’s 50th Annual Grammy Awards, including “Best Alternative Album”, “Best Rock Song” and “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group.”
